Let God Speak 3: The Bible page 1

Some years ago, the first computer program was created to translate English into Russian. Years of research and development had gone into the project, and thousands of words, phrases, and grammatical rules had been programmed into the machine. At last the day came: the work was finished. One of the scientists was given the honour of typing in the first sentence to be translated, so he chose one from the Bible: 'The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.' A few moments later the computer came up with the translation: 'The vodka is good, but the meat is off.'
[Simon Coupland, 'A Dose Of Salts', p232 #223.]

Our theme this week as we consider some of the ways in which God speaks to us is the Bible. What I want to share with you is based around 2 Timothy chapter 3, verses 16 and 17:

'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the person of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.'

I propose to use these verses to explore the origin, purpose, and goal of the Bible.
